Getting In: Yes or No?

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) — Perfect standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, and grades.

These are all things that are almost required for high school students to get into the university of their dreams these days.

In November, FOX 47 News caught up with Mayo High School senior Greta Bedekovics as she began the strenuous process of applying to colleges.

Her dream school? Stanford. Her other top choices included Georgetown, Berkeley, and Duke.

“I just sat there for a few minutes and I read it over and over again,” said Bedekovics.

Following a parade of college visits, college essays, and years of preparation and planing, she was denied acceptance to Stanford, the college of her dreams.

She didn't find the heartbreaking news waiting in her mail box, but rather in her electronic inbox.

“It would have been nice to have a letter, instead of an electronic little thing that crushed my heart,” said Bedekovics.

But this is a different girl than the one we met this fall and on the whole, she is more relaxed about the college acceptance process.

“I bounced back a lot quicker than I thought I was going to,” said Bedekovics.

Greta is now holding out hope for a “yes” from either Duke or Georgetown, with a few other schools peppered in the mix.

“Each school has little bits and pieces that match me better than other ones, but they all kind of end up matching me in the end,” said Bedekovics.

As Greta's fate now lies in the hands of college admission staff across the country, she remains crossing her fingers and *toes* for the perfect match.
