There’s a chance your smartphone is spying on you.
Researchers at Northeastern University spent a year studying over 17,000 popular apps found on androids. They wanted to know if any of them were covertly using the microphone to record audio.
They found no evidence of that.
However, the group did find that some apps record the user’s screen and then share that information with third parties, presumably to sell that information to marketers or data brokers.
The researchers say they will be presenting their work at the privacy enhancing technology symposium conference in Barcelona next month
