Rochester leaders work on future plans for city

Rochester city council members, along with Mayor Ardell Brede, city administrators and concerned community members took a closer look at the city’s mission statement at a retreat held at Cascade Meadow Monday.

They spent majority of the day going over what they’re calling "strategic priority advance."

They’re working on a plan that’ll outline what city leaders will be working towards from here on out.

The plan will be based on community feedback that was taken from phone surveys conducted from May to June.

From those surveys, and surveys from the city team, the group came up with a list of five priorities that’ll be worked toward in the ultimate vision for the city.

Some of those priorities include creating a culture of inclusivity, managing growth and development and infrastructure development.

"I wouldn’t say there’s major changes. If you look at what the community said and what our team said in the different surveys, there are some really specific things. And that’s what the council really talked about today," city administrator Steve Rymer said. "It’s really about taking all that and putting a puzzle piece together in a sense. Because everything is important, but how do you ultimately align the resources with our priorities."

Enhancing quality of life for Rochester residents was dubbed the number one priority moving forward.

The council is currently working on focusing those goals and could have something more concrete by the middle of next month.

The current Rochester mission statement:

"The mission of the City of Rochester is to provide a safe, attractive environment through the responsive, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of municipal services. The City will strive to enhance community pride by improving the physical, environmental, economic, cultural, and social quality of the community."
