Gold Cross expanding service in Mower County

Gold Cross is starting the construction phase of a new station to base ambulances in the Austin area.

The service broke ground Friday at 18th Avenue & 5th Street NW.

It’s expected to allow Gold Cross to respond to increasing call volumes and keep serving the needs of future patients.

"The nice thing about this location is there’s easy access to the interstate, both east and west as well as Highway 218 going north and then obviously south into the central part of town," says Gold Cross Regional Operations Manager Kristofer Keltgen. "So as far as access to the community, it is pretty easy access.  It’s good."

The new facility will be about 7,600 square feet with enough space for four ambulances.

Gold Cross is looking to hire new staff in the next six to twelve months.
