Rochester church hosts night of bluegrass and square dancing

People promenaded and do-si-doed the night away outside the Rochester Area YMCA.

NewDay Church, which worships in the Y, invited the entire community to the event.

People first enjoyed a barbeque dinner and a bluegrass concert from Brian Wicklund and the Barley Jacks.

Then, they got to try their hand at square dancing.

The church says it wanted a way to give back to the community, and this was a perfect way to bring people together.

"I think it’s something unique," said Sarah Monson, NewDay’s Worship Pastor. "We all have this desire to connect in meaningful ways and this is a way to do it, in just a fun way."

Organizers were also collecting donations for the YMCA’s youth scholarship fund.
