Friday crash in Northwest Rochester takes a woman’s life

A two car accident in Northwest Rochester Friday afternoon took a life.

The accident happened around 4:15 p.m. at 55th St.NW and Bandel Rd. NW.

Police say 56-year-old Marcelle Goodman of Oronoco was westbound in an SUV on 55th St. going through the intersection on a green light when she was hit by a Buick Lucerne turning north onto Bandel Rd. on a yellow flashing arrow.

Police say the front passenger in the SUV, 82-year-old Avis Skjeie, who police do not believed was wearing a seat belt, was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to Saint Marys Hospital were she was pronounced dead.

Goodman was not hurt, but two other passengers in the SUV were treated on the scene for minor injuries.

Police say the driver of the Buick, 67-year-old Alan Strand of Welch failed to yield the right of way. A 64-year-old female passenger in his car was taken to Saint Marys with minor injuries.    

The accident remains under investigation.
