An Austin teenager was stabbed twice in the back Tuesday night after two groups of young people tangled.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said the 17-year-old boy who was stabbed was treated and released at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.
Krueger said the fighting between the two groups of teens started at the Mower County Fairgrounds, with mainly pushing and shoving. Later, the two groups of four or five ran into each other again in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen at 1200 West Oakland Ave. where the stabbing happened just before 9:30 p.m.
Police responded to the scene at the Dairy Queen but by the time they arrived, those involved in the fight had fled.
Officers got involved again some 20 minutes later when they were called to Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin where the teen was being treated for two stab wounds in the middle of his back.
Police are searching for a 16-year-old suspect.
