On Sunday, families and community are gathering for the Hunter Bergo Heart of Gold Memorial at the Eagle Bluff Environmental Center with a 30 target, 3D archery shoot – all in memory of ten-year-old Hunter Bergo.
For Luke Bergo, it’s hard not to look back and stare. Luke’s nephew, Hunter, died about two years ago in an ATV accident.
"Probably about the sweetest boy you’d ever hope to meet. Definitely a sense of humor that you will not get anywhere else. I mean the kid was just a joy, funnier than heck," Luke said.
The Bergo family has kept his memory alive the best way they know how: archery.
"I can remember the day that Ryker bought the bow for hunter," Luke said.
Hunter first picked up the bow and arrow when he was about 4-years-old. He was a true outdoors man. Just like his dad and uncle.
"Big hunter, big fisher, all that good stuff," Luke said.
This 3rd annual event will include a silent auction, food, door prizes – as well as a kids area with face painting and snow cones.
"So many people have given so much for this to take place and helping out a couple different families in the area is just awesome. Outpouring, overwhelming, experience."
All proceeds from tickets and donations will go to two local families in need of medical funding help.
Mostly, the Bergos want the event to be fun and filled with loved ones – in remembrance of their boy.
"When you’re feeling a little gloomy, I think about his smile. The things he would do to make you laugh, all his jokes…he was something else," Luke said. "Gonna miss him. Everyday."
The event will start at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Adults can join for $15 and kids over the age of 9 for $10.
