Pedestrian on scooter hit by car in Austin

A woman riding a motorized scooter in Austin was hit by a pickup truck Wednesday morning.

Police said a 74-year-old driver was headed southbound and about to take a left turn onto 1st St. when he smashed into 48-year-old Sharon Heikes’ scooter. 

Heikes fell off the scooter and suffered minor injuries. 

The driver reportedly told police that the sun was in his eyes and he did not see Heikes.

Heikes’ scooter was damaged, but she could still operate it.
