John Marshall High School students serve slices for soldiers

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) –  Some Rochester high school students are on a mission this Thanksgiving season to help local veterans.

The American Studies students at John Marshall High School organized an event Thursday called “Slices for Soldiers: Feed Our Vets” Thursday evening in the school’s cafeteria.

The pizza fundraiser is an effort to make sure every veteran enjoys a good meal this Thanksgiving.

Their goal is to feed veterans, their families, and staff at VA hospitals and homes in Minneapolis, La Crescent, St. Cloud, and Tomah, Wisconsin.

In addition to donations, there were silent auction items and drawings throughout the evening.

“It’s kind of our Spirit of Service award, with John Marshall American Studies class,” said Sarah Strauss, a John Marshall High School Sophomore. “Every year we do a project like this to give back to our community. We’re hoping through this project to kind of project John Marshall’s theme this year that we’re all all in.”

The students will be donating meals to about 2,000 people.

This is the first time they’re adding the VA Hospital in St. Cloud to their list of facilities to help.
