Business Professionals of America (BPA) hosted its regional contest at RCTC bringing in over 80 team and individual events.
The events ranged from accounting and word processing skills to computer writing programs.
The broadcasting competition was judged by FOX 47 Anchor Erin O’Brien.
BPA representatives said just competing in today’s event provides a valuable education.
“There’s lifelong skills that I’ve learned from BPA Public Speaking is one of them. Networking with people and getting along with everyone. I will be forever thankful for the organization,” said BPA Vice President of Development Nacho Larios. “How to be organized. How to speak publicly in front of people and it’s very nice on resumes as well and for college applications.”
“If I’m in an accounting event. I can apply those skills to my accounting class that I’m in. So it’s kind-of like a 2 for 1,” said Sarah Colwell, BPA Regent 3 President. “You study for here you can also use it towards outside stuff in school or then like your job or whatever and it prepares you for your future.”
The top qualifiers from the region will move on to the state level where they will compete for a chance to make the nationals in Anaheim, Calif.
