Goodhue Sheriff bans vehicles from driving on ice at some lakes and rivers

GOODHUE COUNTY, Minn. (FOX 47) – The Goodhue County Sheriff banned vehicles from going on the ice of some area lakes and rivers due to the warmer weather conditions.

Sheriff Marty Kelly closed Lake Byllesby to cars, trucks, ATVs and snowmobiles. Other bodies of water closed include Upper Harbor, Bay Point at Red Wing and Lake Pepin from mile-marker 773 to 784.

The close also includes access from Methodist Campus and Hoksila Landing.

The ban on vehicles is expected to be in effect until further notice.

Accidents around the area, including a snowmobile who had a near-death experience Friday on Lake Pepin have contributed to this close. The man was rescued by first responders using iceboats.
