ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) – For hockey fans, it’s the most wonderful day of the year: Hockey Day Minnesota.
This year’s festivities are in Bemidji, but there was still plenty going on in Rochester, with the Outdoor Hockey Day Tournament.
The Rochester Youth Hockey League put their best skates forward with the puck drop at the ice rinks at Soldiers Field.
Kids played the game the way it was meant to be played: outdoors.
And even with the single digit temperatures, it was still a fun day for everyone involved.
“Having played hockey all my life, it’s been a great experience for me and to have a state that’s very passionate about hockey and being able to share that with my kids and other families is just something that means a lot to me,” said Robb Wiedrich, Rochester Mite Hockey Director.
“The kids love the music, they love the crowd and just to see the smiles on their faces out here and the temps are a little bit colder this year, but they’re having a blast. We’re trying to keep them moving and keep them warm.”
Age groups from Termites to Supermites to Squirts all had a blast playing outside with all the fanfare.
