OWATONNA, Minn. (FOX 47) – Owatonna Police Department responded to a reported fight at the office of Owatonna High School.
Minnesota State Patrol and Steele County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
Officials reportedly arrived to a large group of students shouting and being disruptive in the commons area and gymnasium.
A lockdown was ordered by school staff for the safety of the students and staff.
Owatonna Police said that not all students were cooperative. They also stated that social media posts claiming weapons were used during the incident are incorrect.
Gold Cross Paramedics were also on scene for medical emergencies not related to any assault.
At this time, no students have reported any injuries.
Officials said that they are not aware of any physical altercations between students, however, students KTTC spoke with yesterday said that at times, things did become physical, with some students trying to rush the school office.
Initial reports indicated that a few white students posted racist comments on social media directed towards Owatonna black students.
A juvenile was taken into custody for assaulting a partnering law enforcement officer and another was taken in for obstructing legal process.
A third juvenile was cited and released for trespassing.
The posts are being investigated as part of the ongoing investigation.
