Local Boy Scouts honored in awards program

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) – Local Boy Scouts honored volunteers and supporters Wednesday night. The Gamehaven Council handed out 12 awards at its Annual Awards Program.

The North Star Award, was given to former Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede for his support over the years.

The council also gave out the highest award one can receive in scouting, the Silver Beaver Award.

Gamehaven Council Scout Executive Jason Dugan says hearing about the leadership and dedication from these volunteers is his favorite part about Wednesday’s event.

“As you hear all the stories of the folks that are in this room, they’ve given their whole entire life to scouting. I’ve been lucky enough to work for the boy scouts for 19 years, grew up in the program, spent 8 years in the program,” Dugan said. “But I come no where close to the dedication that our volunteers have.”

Newscenter’s morning anchor Jacob Murphy stayed up late to emcee the event.
