Judge orders Goodhue man to 10 years in prison in “sex room” case

RED WING, Minn. (FOX 47) —

A Goodhue man has been sentenced to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to one charge of criminal sexual conduct involving a girl under age 16.

As part of a plea agreement, 13 other sex charges were dropped.

Sheriff’s investigators arrested Michael and Heather Germain in April, 2017 after a juvenile told police she had been assaulted by the couple multiple times over multiple years.

Court documents outline details of a so-called “sex room” in a detached garage at the Germain’s home across the street from Goodhue Public Schools.  In a search, investigators found a large, free standing wooden structure with holes drilled in it “to easily accommodate rope or other types of bondage materials.”  Also found–sex toys, whips, chains, neck collars, multiple digital cameras and adult pornography.

At Friday’s sentencing in Red Wing, Germain was ordered to be immediately transported to the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for 165 months, with a conditional release set after ten years.

Heather Germain was put on supervised probation for five years and a Stay of Adjudication was entered on a felony charge of child neglect or endangerment, and a gross misdemeanor drug possession charge.  Seven other felony charges were dismissed against her.  A Stay of Adjudication is a legal option for a judge enabling that a person’s record can be cleared if conditions are met during the probation period.

Among the conditions set for Heather Germain:  Chemical dependency evaluation/treatment, complete out-patient sex offender treatment, no possession of alcohol or drugs, no direct or indirect contact with the victim, and no possession or use of any pornographic/sexually explicit material.
