ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX47) – The countdown to Rochesterfest is officially underway.
Tuesday morning’s annual button kick-off news conference paved the way for “A Magicial Time” this summer.
Rochester Mayor Kim Norton got things started with her $5 purchase for the first official 2019 Rochesterfest Button. Norton’s predecessor, Ardell Brede, was honored with the role of Grand Marshall for the Rochesterfest grand parade on Saturday, June 29th.
Rochester native William Khammanh was awarded $500 for his enchanting design of this year’s Rochesterfest button.
“It was kind of difficult at first but what I wanted to do was kind of just wave my hand and you know bring Rochester to life.” Said Khammanh.
“One of the first things you think about with Rochester is the corn tower. If you see the button you see it’s silver and then the husker is actually alive. So I kind of bring it to life in that sense. And if you look at the skyline it’s actually the same skyline from soldiers field so that was kind of a neat aspect to it.”
Khammanh adds that he taught himself the editing programs to create this year’s design.
Rochesterfest kicks off its 9 day run June 22nd.
