New look inside One Discovery Square

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) – We’re getting a new look inside One Discovery Square. Developers say the project is the foundation anchor of Destination Medical Center.

This building is designed with one thing in mind, collaboration. As of now UMR, Epic medical systems and Mayo Clinic are all leasing space, an effort to further connect education to business ventures.

It’s the first of a series of structures planned for the discovery square district downtown.

Jeremy Jacobs, project developer with Mortenson

Jeremy Jacobs, the project developer with Mortenson, said the project is designed to attract more than just professionals. “A student who was looking at institutions like Notre Dame, but selected UMR for the opportunity to partner with companies and have direct access to Mayo and the challenges that they see in healthcare every day.”

“We can teach students to literally graduate, walk across the hall and play a meaningful role whether it be Mayo Clinic or any one of the other participants in this building,” stated UMR Senior Advisor Jay Hesley.

Part of the attraction is not only the scientific facilities, but also the building’s amenities like living room type spaces , quiet rooms and areas set aside for collaboration.

“Comfortable at work being at work and meeting the holistic set of like feel good needs,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs also said one discovery square will bring in new revenue helping boost the Rochester economy.

“The public benefit is we’re bringing new companies to market we’re delivering new jobs to the market new tax base to the market we’re really doing something that is enlivening Rochester in a new way,” said Jacobs. “The market to know that we should all be proud of this because it’s changing how the world engages with Rochester

Additional tenants will be announced this summer. The building officially opens in September.
