SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (FOX 47) – A Spring Valley teen is making her community proud, about to enter one of the nation’s most prestigious schools.
Renee Lechner, a 2019 graduate of Kingsland High School, is set to enter The U.S. Military Academy at West Point this summer.
In high school, Lechner was involved in quite a few activities, ranging from National Honor Society, Key Club, Track and Field, drumline, trapshooting, and dance.
She had already joined the National Guard when she applied, but still had to go through a lengthy application process including physical tests and essays.
“It was actually the only college I applied to, so I was really riding on getting in so it was just really incredible,” Lechner said. “I got a phone call from one of the representatives from West Point and I was actually at a choir practice and I just broke down crying because I was so excited.”
Lechner plans to study Life Sciences there.
She wants to become a radiologist.
She’ll graduate as a Second Lieutenant.
Lechner reports to West Point at the end of this month.
