Arrest made in connection to early March homicide near Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) – The Olmsted County Sheriff has confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection to a homicide that took place earlier this year.

23-year-old Ayub Iman of Rochester is facing a charge of 2nd degree murder, with intent, not premeditated.

Sheriff Kevin Torgerson spoke with reporters Friday morning, explaining that it is still a complex and active investigation. He said his office is still limited on what it could say about the case.

His deputies discovered the body of 28-year-old Garad Hassan in the early morning hours of March 5 near the intersection of 45th Street SE and County Road 20 near Rochester. A passerby first found the body with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities say there are people who know Iman who may have information about the homicide.

“We strongly urge those people to do the right thing and come forward with any information they have,” Sheriff Torgerson said. He also says Iman had a relationship with the victim, but didn’t elaborate on the nature of the relationship.

Iman was arraigned in court Friday morning. He did not enter a plea. Bail is set at $1 million.

He is currently being held in the Goodhue County Jail in Red Wing because of “conflicting relationships” with current Olmsted county detainees.
