Byron School District selects new HS principal

BYRON, Minn. (KXLT) – Byron School District officials announced on social media Friday afternoon, the selection of Byron’s current activities director and high school assistant principal, Malia Schroeder, as the next Byron High School principal.

Schroeder has served the Byron Public School District since 2007, first as a special education EBD teacher.

According to the social post, Schroeder earned her Bachelors of Arts in Social Work from the College of Saint Benedict. She later attained licensure in Special Education from Minnesota State University Mankato, where she also received her Masters in Education in Teaching and Learning. She completed her principal license through Winona State University.

Byron School Board Chair, Sharon Kreitinger is quoted in the announcement saying, “Malia is a proven leader in our district and is wholeheartedly committed to the success of our teachers, staff, and most importantly, all of our students. Her passion for our mission and vision lives and breathes in her daily actions. That combined with her skill set, leadership style, and work ethic will continue to build her legacy of success for all of our students here in Byron. I am very excited and honored to see her as the new leader of Byron High School.”

Schroeder is taking over for Steve Willman who took an administrative position at Rochester Public Schools.
