ZUMBROTA, Minn. (FOX 47) – After speaking with Zumbrota residents Thursday night about a controversial proposed development, the developer, Wobig Construction LLC, reacts to concerns.
Joe Wobig is passionate about developing houses.
“Giving people the keys to a new house and seeing their faces,” Wobig said.
But his latest development – one that he’s been negotiating with the city for the last year and half – has received some pushback.
Thursday night at city hall, residents voiced concerns about the 10 acre mixed residential development. Some residents are worried about property values going down.
“Property value will increase when this development goes in,” Wobig said. “The roads will be black topped to the houses and the houses will just as nice, if not nicer.”
Others voiced concerns about water drainage.
“The 10 acres have been undeveloped forever and its all flowing into their houses now,” Wobig said. “Us putting in the lots is actually going to do the opposite, because now we will have to control the storm and sewer to go in the opposite direction.”
Wobig says his main objective is to bring affordable housing to Zumbrota and as a resident himself, its his city’s growth that keeps him passionate about this project.
“Our city is expanding and we need to make more room for residents so we can make our city better,” Wobig said.
Wobig adds his development will include a mixture of affordable and high end housing, a total of 24 residential lots and 16 townhouse lots. If everything goes according to plan, the road paving will be completed this winter and we could see home construction sometime spring 2020.
