Olmsted County deputies help prevent man from ending his life

ORONOCO, Minn. (FOX47) — A man’s life was saved on Tuesday after Olmsted County deputies convinced him to come down from a railing overlooking Lake Zumbro.

The man’s friend called law enforcement at 2:44 p.m. on Tuesday. She told deputies that her friend was potentially suicidal.

As two male deputies were driving to meet with the woman, they recognized the man’s vehicle on White Bridge Road Northeast in Oronoco just after 3 p.m.

His car was parked close to the railing, and he was standing between the railing and his vehicle. As deputies approached him, he stepped over the railing to the cement ledge.

The deputies began trying to convince the man to get to safety. The man eventually agreed, and he went into his friend’s vehicle.

Deputies then convinced him to get medical help, and he was transported to Mayo Clinic Saint Marys.

Both of the deputies that saved the man had undergone Crisis Intervention Training.

If you are in crisis, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or reach out to the Crisis Text Line by texting ‘Home’ to 741741.
