Storms likely today; Quieter weather pattern moves in Friday

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

Southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa is in for yet another soggy day, but after today our weather pattern quiets down just in time for the weekend. This morning, showers and thunderstorms will roll through the area, exiting by mid morning. Like yesterday, we’ll be able to manage a short break from the rain before our second round of storms arrives for the late afternoon. Highs will be seasonal in the mid 70s. Our afternoon and evening round of storms have the potential to become strong to severe with damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall the main threats. Also, cannot rule out an isolated tornado, so will need to stay weather aware throughout the day.

With the potential for several rounds of heavy rainfall to fall on already saturated grounds, will need to watch out for flash flooding. A flash flood watch has been issued for the viewing area until 1am Friday. Folks living along waterways and in low lying areas will need to monitor water levels closely throughout the next 24 hours.

Tonight, showers and thunderstorms will come to an end during the mid to late evening. Skies will begin to clear following the storms with a passing cold front cooler temperatures. Overnight lows will be in the mid 50s with a breezy southwest wind at 10-15 mph.

Relief and an end to our active weather pattern arrives Friday. We’ll see seasonably cool high temperatures in the mid 60s with partly sunny skies and a breezy west wind. Saturday looks to feature warmer temperatures in the mid 70s and additional sunshine. Saturday night into early Sunday morning could see a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms.

Dry and sunny skies remain into Sunday with highs in the upper 70s. Temperatures in the lower 80s return for the start of the work week. Both Monday and Tuesday will see partly sunny skies. Our dry stretch of weather comes to an end during the midweek as a chance for showers and thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday.
