AUSTIN, Minn. (FOX 47) – While consolidation between Albert Lea and Austin branches of Mayo Clinic Health System continues, so do renovations to the Austin campus.
The construction at the front of the building aims to provide easier access to the medical surgical unit and family birth center.
Those units are also undergoing renovations being done in stages so as not to disrupt normal hospital operations.
The family birth center is expected to be completed by next summer and the medical surgical unit by late 2020.
“Based on volumes, we think that this is going to be able to accommodate our community,” said operations administrator Tricia Dahl. “A big portion of this is bringing those services together but also taking the time to update the technology and environment.”
While construction is underway, the hospital is offering valet parking since many of their handicapped spots are no longer available.
