Canton drinking water contaminated with E. Coli

CANTON, Minn. (FOX 47) – An urgent alert for Canton residents: the city’s water is contaminated with E. Coli.

The bacteria was found in the water supply Saturday.

Residents should not drink the water without boiling it first. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and washing dishes until further notice.

The city of Canton says the contamination could have occurred from an increase in run off entering the drinking water source – like heavy rain – or a pipe failure in the water treatment process.

The city is working to chlorinate and flush the water system.

Canton City Administrator Brock Bergey says the system will be re-evaluated Monday.

Boil order.
