Man arrested after assault charges involving machete knife

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47)- Rochester Police arrest a man after he assaulted a family with a large machete knife Friday afternoon.

It was around noon when 29-year old Harun Ali Abdulle knocked on a residence on Kenosha Drive in North West Rochester. When someone answered the door Abdulle entered and started slashing sofas and breaking a television with a machete.

Three children were present at the time. Abdulle left the apartment before police arrived, but officers returned hours later because Abdulle was calling and making threats towards the rest of the family.

He messaged a member of the family to look at their car in the parking lot – which was found with one of the tires slashed and flat. Abdulle then sent the family an audio message stating he was going to quote: “cut them up into pieces with a knife.”

While on the phone with an officer Abdulle said he was going to return and finish the family off.  It was about 5:45 when an RPD officer found Abdulle driving near the intersection on 12th Street and 4th Avenue South East.

He was taken into custody – and the machete was found inside the car he was driving.

Abdulle remains at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. For public safety concerns, he will be held there until his court hearing.

He faces seven charges.

Machete assault arrest.
