STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (FOX 47) – It was a packed house Wednesday night in Stewartville as residents got to voice their opinions about a possible expansion of a manufactured-home community.
Sun Communities, which owns Southern Hills and Northridge Place, wants to add nearly 300 more lots. That would add properties to the west of its current development along 20th Street NW, giving prospective residents a less expensive option for housing than traditionally-built homes.
An environmental review is required, because of the number of lots in the expansion. The city council approved that back in April, but Wednesday there is a public hearing for the community to receive a condition use permit.
Public comment lasted more than an hour but city leaders say hearing from concerned residents is helpful.
“That’s the benefit of having a public hearing like we did this evening because we are able to hear from the community members, both in for and against such projects.” Said Stewartville Planning and Zoning Commission Chaiman Tony Lehrman. “And then it really comes back to the planning and zoning commission to make that follow-up with the Stewartville city council – a recommendation ultimately.”
