ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) — Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time for the man in the big red suit to make his appearance. The one and only Santa Claus made his way to Rochester Friday night – but ran into a bit of an issue on his way in.
Santa’s entrance created quite the scene. Rochester Fire Department had to step in to save Santa and his sleigh on top of the Old City Fall. Luckily, RFD worked quickly and were able to rescue Kris Kringle and get him back on schedule.
Before the sleigh mis-hap, you could find Mrs. Claus with Santa’s Elves at a warming house with story time, cookie decorating, hot chocolate and more.
Most importantly though, Santa was on time for the tree lighting in the Peace Plaza at 6:30 p.m. He flipped the switch to light up the giant tree himself.
“We love this event, Michael Eckerman said. “Special thing to do in downtown Rochester every year. We love it.”
Santa Claus has been visiting Rochester the day after Thanksgiving for the past 45 years. He still manages to get stuck on the roof every year.
“Here Comes Santa Claus” day is put on by Rochester Downtown Alliance.
