ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Today marks Giving Tuesday and at the Apache Mall, The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive is back for another year of giving books to local charities.
Each Barnes & Noble location chooses a local organization to support.
In Rochester, the support goes to Christmas Anonymous to make sure kids get holiday gifts.
Here's how it works: anybody coming in to the store can pick out any book they would like. Or at the register, when you're checking out your items, the cashier will ask you if you'd like to donate a book.
The store will give out what they've collected so far through December 14. The rest will be saved for next Christmas.
"It's a gift that keeps giving. The knowledge, the joy a book brings to anyone's life — and then when they get done, they can re-read it and re-experience that joy or they pass the book on to someone else and it keeps going," said store manager Katie Werner. "And just getting that opportunity to shut off for bad things in life and be able to have something that you look forward to and brings joy, we really appreciate being able to help the local community do that."
The Rochester Barnes & Noble location has been doing the holiday book drive every year since it opened.
In 2018, Barnes & Noble stores gave 1.2 million books to charities throughout the United States.
