Rochester Girl Scouts collect donations for troops overseas

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47)-- It's Random Acts of Kindness Week, and a group of local Girl Scouts is working to give to others.

They decided to start their week at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building to help out our military members.

Troop 47865 collaborated with the group called Caring Acts of Kindness Everywhere (CAKE).

"We're selling, so we can collect donations for troops overseas," said Girl Scout, Addy Gore.

The scouts accepted cookie donations, clothing, and much more.
It's a community service project that impacts Addy personally.

"My dad he was in the Army and he got a box of Girl Scout Cookies and it meant so much to him," she said.

Her father, Zachery Gore, received a donated care package, while he was deployed in Iraq in 2005.

"I've got a care package with Girl Scout Cookies and the box was gone immediately," Zachery said.

His thought when he got the package was simply: "A little slice of home."

The scouts kept close track of the donations they collect for the troops overseas, with the top selling cookie being Thin Mints.

As the donations flowed the girls focused on putting a smile on our troops' faces.

"It will make them feel good and maybe make their day, said Girl Scout Julia Hendrickson."

A portion of the cookie sales did support the Girl Scout troop.
