ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX47) -- Sen. Amy Klobuchar is scheduled to tour Mayo Clinic's COVID-19 research and testing facilities on Friday morning.
Klobuchar is reportedly scheduled take the tour with Mayo CEO Gianrico Farrugia to get an update on COVID-19 testing and research and to hear more about Mayo's efforts to address other patients health needs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a news release from Klobuchar, at 10 a.m., the tour will begin at Mayo’s Research Information Center with Dr. Amy Williams and Dr. Andrew Badley, the Infectious Disease Specialist who is leading the COVID-19 Research Task Force at Mayo. Klobuchar said the two will give updates on "Mayo’s reactivation strategy to meet other patient needs during the pandemic, new COVID-19 treatment and innovation, and updates on convalescent plasma treatment."
Klobuchar is then scheduled to tour the Mayo Virology Lab and speak to Dr. Matthew Binnicker, Dr. Elitza Theel and Senior Vice President of Labs Scott Beck to hear about developments with the COVID-19 molecular swab and antibody blood tests and their partnership both in the state and nationally. Klobuchar is also set to tour the lab that processes Mayo's COVID-19 test.
After the tour ends at about 10:40 a.m., Klobuchar and Badley will reportedly hold media availability.
