Pandemic Pictures Presents: Drive-in and music series kicks off Friday night in Rochester

Pandemic Pictures Presents

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX47) -- Area residents will be able to enjoy some entertainment starting Friday night as a new drive-in movie and music series launches at the History Center of Olmsted County.

Pandemic Pictures Presents kicks off at 7 p.m. at Rooster Field at the history center. It features a 50 feet by 28 feet screen set up on a 12 feet frame. It is in the baseball field at the history center.

The festivities start tonight when the gates open at 7 p.m. There will also be live music, a presentation from the history center and food like popcorn being sold from local high school bands, ice cream and pizza from Pasquale's. The movie on Friday night is Grease and will start around dusk.

All of this was the idea of Dan Van Hook, the owner of Spectrum Pro Audio and Video in Rochester. The COVID-19 pandemic hurt his business and he was looking for ways to be creative.

"My business is shut down. I've got employees and myself and I'm guessing we won't be back to work until 2021," Van Hook said. "So we decided to do something and I was looking online and I saw that Denmark had done this similar kind of thing and it went over extremely well."

Tickets are $25 per car, and you can purchase them online on the Pandemic Pictures Presents Facebook Page. There is an FM transmitter so people can listen to the movie in their cars. There is a 100-vehicle limit and people are asked to stay in their cars except for bathroom or food breaks. Bathrooms will be sanitized every 30 minutes.

Pandemic Pictures Presents is planned for every Friday through the end of September. Van Hook is also considering food trucks and other forms
of entertainment as well for future dates. It is recommended to come early to get your space.
