ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX47) — River Bend Assisted Living and Memory Care residents, staff and essential care givers received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday.
Many at River Bend said the day felt like Christmas morning, as more than 150 Pfizer vaccines were administered.
Eighty residents and 65% of staff were given vaccines. A few days earlier, River Bend realized they had enough vaccine to give to essential care givers too. All hope this means they are closer to normalcy after a difficult year.
“It’s been rough for our families and residents,” River Bend Marketing Director Kimberly Holst said. “They haven’t been able to go shopping, or go on vacations with their loved ones. We’re hoping with the vaccine, we’re hoping things can start turning around for them. They have been excited and waiting for this day.”
After receiving the vaccine, people sat down in a separate area for 15 minutes for monitoring. Those vaccinated will need to get their second dose in three weeks.
