Ahead of a winter storm this weekend, a winter weather advisory will go into effect for all of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa on Saturday from noon until 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
Light snow will begin during the afternoon, with some breaks in the snowfall due to some dry air moving in. Once we overcome that dry air, we'll see heavy, widespread snow through the late evening and overnight hours. Snowfall will wrap up early on Sunday morning.
Overall, we're not expecting major impacts from this system since it will be overnight on a weekend. The snow will be very light and fluffy, easy to shovel but also easy to be blown around. Some areas of reduced visibility are possible Saturday evening.
The heaviest snowfall will occur during the overnight hours, expecting accumulations of 3-6 inches widespread across the region. Slightly higher totals are possible further west and slightly lower totals further south into Iowa.
The majority of Sunday will be quiet and seasonable for this time of year, nice conditions for clearing off your driveway. We'll still with average temperatures for the rest of next week with a slight chance for additional snowfall on Wednesday. Have a great weekend!
