Bright and chilly today
A large area of high pressure is moving into the region from the north today, bringing bright, tranquil weather to the area along with a dose of colder air for our Wednesday. A few low clouds are lingering in the area ahead of that high pressure, but as we move into the afternoon hours, we'll enjoy increasing sunshine in the Upper Mississippi Valley. High temperatures will only be in the mid and upper teens today, but north winds will be generally light, keeping wind chill levels fairly close to the actual temperatures.
Temperatures will take a bit of a tumble later this evening with overnight lows around zero, if not slightly below zero, and just a light northwest breeze. Overall, it looks like the coldest night of the week.
A pleasant Thursday
Abundant sunshine and a slight south breeze Thursday will work to help temperatures warm fairly quickly. Expect temperatures to climb steadily from around zero at sunrise to the upper teens to low 20s in the afternoon.
Warmer, but unsettled this weekend
Clouds will thicken Thursday night into Friday as warm air blows into the region ahead of an approaching storm system. Even without much sunshine Friday, temperatures will be the warmest of the week to that point, mainly in the upper 20s with a brisk southeast breeze reaching 20 miles per hour at times adding an extra chill to the air.
Light snow will develop Saturday, mainly in the late morning or early afternoon as that storm system slides into the area. A light coating of snowfall will be possible by evening with more accumulation likely overnight and for the early part of Sunday. High temperatures Saturday will be in the lower 30s with upper 20s Sunday with a brisk north breeze on the backside of the storm system.
More snow chances next week
We'll start the month of February next week with a couple of bright, seasonably cold days with high temperatures in the low to mid-20s before a large storm system looks to move in for the middle part of the week. There will be a chance of snow next Wednesday and Thursday with high temperatures around 30 degrees.
