DECORAH, Iowa (FOX47) — The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office is warning of an ongoing scam effort.
According to a news release Tuesday afternoon, scammers are accusing residents of being involved with a drug cartel and will be arrested if they don’t wire money.
The sheriff’s office says the scammers are even spoofing the office’s phone number. Spoofing hides the actual phone number so it looks like the call is originating from an official source.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind people never to give out personal information to someone who calls, or send money under this type of threat.
