Austin pedestrian dies in vehicle crash, another seriously injured

AUSTIN, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A pedestrian is dead and another is seriously injured after an SUV hit them Saturday night in Austin.

According to the Mower County Sheriffs Department, a vehicle hit two females on County Road 46, East of 28th Street NE around 7:40 p.m.

Once on scene, authorities found two females, one adult and one juvenile, laying on the road way. Both were taken to Mayo Clinic Medical Center in Austin. 24-year-old Mikayla Ann Sherman of Austin, later died at the hospital. There is no condition update for the juvenile female.

The vehicle that hit the pedestrians was a 2003 Chevy Tahoe and was found sitting in the North ditch of Country Road 46. The adult male driver was not hurt in the crash.

Officials say the incident is under investigation. Austin Police, Mower County Sheriff's Deputies, Minnesota State Patrol, Austin Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the scene.
