Arrest warrant issued for Mason City murder

MASON CITY, Iowa (FOX 47) — A Mason City man is wanted in connection to a deadly shooting Wednesday night.

According to a news release, Mason City Police Department (MCPD) officers were called to the intersection of 3rd Street NW and North Jefferson Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

Responding officers found a victim, and the Mason City Fire Department took the person to MercyOne North Iowa. That person later died from their injuries.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called to help with the investigation.

Late Thursday night, MCPD announced a Murder in the First Degree arrest warrant had been issued for 38-year-old Benjamin B. Gonzalez of Mason City.

MCPD says Gonzalez should be considered armed and dangerous.
