Brief showers possible today
The cold air mass that blew into the region on Monday and made it feel like early March is hanging around today, but this time winds are a bit lighter and we're getting a chance to enjoy a little more sunshine across the area. Overall, it's looking like a bright but chilly and somewhat unsettled Tuesday for the area with cold sunshine for most of the morning before cumulus clouds develop in the midday hours and then a few brief, light rain showers will pop up for the afternoon that may mix with some snowflakes at times. High temperatures will be in the lower 40s with a slight northwest breeze that will keep wind chill values in the 20s and 30s throughout the day.
A cool midweek
Wednesday's weather looks very similar as cold air lingers and a little energy moves in from the northwest to trigger a handful of light showers for the midday and afternoon hours. We'll have occasional sunshine throughout the day with a brisk northwest breeze and high temperatures will be in the mid-40s. Wind chill values tomorrow will be in the 30 for most of the day.
A bright and mild Thursday
Our weather will finally turn the corner a bit on Thursday as high pressure slides in from the Plains, meaning drier, sunnier skies can be expected in our area with lighter winds. A warmer air mass will build into the Upper Mississippi Valley and our temperatures will respond nicely, warming from the upper 20s in the morning to the upper 50s in the afternoon with a light westerly breeze.
A seasonable weekend with some rain
A weak cold front will slide through the region on Friday, producing scattered rain showers in our area, especially in the midday and afternoon. Expect occasional glimpses at the sun throughout the day with high temperatures in the lower 50s.
We'll have occasional sunshine and clouds Saturday with a brisk breeze and high temperatures will be around 50 degrees. Sunday is looking a little cloudier with a few isolated showers possible later in the day and high temperatures will be in the lower 50s.
Warmer early next week
A large storm system will approach the area from the west early next week, drawing in some very warm air ahead of it and setting the stage for a mild start to the week. We'll have occasional sunshine during the day next Monday with gusty south winds that will help our temperatures warm into the low to mid-60s.
While there will be a chance for a few isolated thunderstorms late next Tuesday, we'll still enjoy a rather warm day as temperatures will likely flirt with the low 70s. South winds will again, be on the gusty side helping the warming cause.
Rain chances will increase for next Wednesday and Thursday with high temperatures slowly cooling from the 60s to the 50s for the latter part of the week.
