RPD officers assisted with security in Minneapolis during Chauvin trial

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX47) — While former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin awaits his sentencing in June, the streets surrounding the Hennepin County Courthouse are quieter.

Helping to keep those streets safe during the trial were 16 Rochester Police officers. They provided mutual aid in Minneapolis as part of Operation Safety Net, according to RPD.

The officers helped keep watch over the first and third precincts for seven days.

As per a mutual aid agreement, Minneapolis Police will reimburse the Rochester Police Department for staffing costs.
