Hot and humid today; Friday storms, then a drier weekend

Fox DMA Today

Hot and humid again today

The hot and steamy air mass that has been with us all week long is hanging around today as we once again look to reach the lower 90s for high temperatures and flirt with record territory. We'll have mostly sunny skies throughout the day with a few fair-weather cumulus clouds in the afternoon and perhaps a stray shower or thunderstorm later in the day. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s with a light southwest breeze and heat indices will be in the mid and upper 90s.

The record high temperature in Rochester is 96 degrees today, so we'll likely just fall short of the record this afternoon.

Muggy with some thunderstorms on Friday

Our Friday is looking warm and humid and just a little more unsettled as a cold front from the west approaches the area. A line of strong thunderstorms will likely develop in the Plains to our west and as it rolls into our area early Friday, it will weaken, bringing just a few scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late morning and afternoon. Another round of thunderstorms will develop locally late in the day and for the evening as the cold front pushes through the Upper Mississippi Valley. While severe weather isn't expected at this point, a few of those storms may produce downpours of rainfall. High temperatures tomorrow will be in the lower 90s with a south breeze that will occasionally gust to 20 miles per hour.

Less humid this weekend

Slightly cooler, less humid air will blow into the region for Saturday in the wake of Friday night's cold front. We'll enjoy a bright, tranquil day with high temperatures in the mid-80s and dew points will drop into the comfortable 50s for most of the day.

Sunday looks just a little warmer under abundant sunshine, but humidity levels will remain low for mid-June standards.

Warm sunshine next week

Warm sunshine will remain the rule for the upcoming week as well. Aside from a weak cold front that will pass through the region Tuesday, the week will be dominated by high pressure from the Plains meaning we'll have dry, warm weather with abundant sunshine in the area. A late-week front will trigger a few scattered thunderstorms on Thursday. High temperatures will be in the mid and upper 80s all week with lows in the 60s.
