Derek Chauvin to appeal conviction and sentence

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (FOX47) -- Breaking News late Thursday night, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin plans to appeal his conviction and sentencing in the death of George Floyd.

Chauvin claims the judge abused his discretion during several key points in the case. He intends to appeal on 14 grounds, one of them being Judge Peter Cahill abusing his discretion when he denied Chauvin's request to move the trial out of Hennepin County.

Chauvin was sentenced to 22 and a half years on second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd's 2020 death.
