Copper wire theft threatens railroad crossing safety

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX47) — Authorities say someone removed a sensor that would notify oncoming traffic that a train is coming.

According to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, someone removed the four-foot copper wire that acts as a sensor for County Road 9. The railroad crossing is on the 4300 Block of Collegeview Road East.

Authorities said Canadian Pacific Railway, the victim of the theft, discovered the crime at about 2 p.m. on Friday.
